Limoncello” is the typical and most famous liqueur produced in Sorrento and Amalfi Coast.

It is an infusion with a sugary taste and a typical yellow colour, whose alcohol content is between 20%and 32% vol. and it is got by macerating the peels of Sorrento lemons

Like Nocillo of Sorrento, itโ€™s a liqueur with digestive properties and must never be missing at home: in fact, in Campania, the moment of Limoncello has effectively become a social practice like coffee, concluding lunch or dinner.

The story of Limoncello is lost in a series of stories and tales
making impossible to date back to an official authorship.

In fact, this is competed for people of Sorrento, Amalfi and Capri. There are those who say it was born within the walls of a convent as a drink to be consumed during prayers; according to other people it was drunk by Sorrento fishermen of ancient times to warm in the cold mornings of fishing.

There are those who even say it was also patented at theend of the 19th century in a motel in Capri. Beyond these nicely local stories, limoncello is one of the most loved and famous liqueurs in the world, so much so that it is now available on the international market.
