This collection shows the beginnings of Edgardo Curcio. The figure of his brother Carlo was very important for our painter. In this partial family recognition there is also the portrait of Marta Gambardella, daughter of family friends, who at 18 years old posed for his various works and who, was not related to Giuseppina Gambardella, who in 1919 will become Edgardo’s wife.
The sequence of marine landscapes is proof of Curcio’s training nineteenth-century naturalism field based on a language of the lands, as can be seen from the works created when he returned from Rome to Naples in summer or when he went to holiday resorts.
Over the years, however, Curcio gradually opens his palette to lighter and more varied tonalities.
