Mayor of Sorrento Massimo Coppola: “We are returning to the city a great cultural hub.”
The municipal theater Tasso in Sorrento reopens to the public after a break that allowed for a restyling of furnishings and significant upgrades to facilities and equipment.
This afternoon, the ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in the presence of the Mayor of Sorrento, Massimo Coppola, the new artistic director, Massimiliano Gallo, and the CEO of Ufficio K, Lele Nitti, the facility’s manager.
“To lead a theater requires a great sense of responsibility and, at the same time, joy and an enchanted look towards the future. The municipal theater of Sorrento has been offering culture to the community for a century – explained Massimiliano Gallo- My mission is to reposition Teatro Tasso through a series of artistically significant events and bring it back to the level it deserves: the international stage.“
“We have completed a massive restyling and technological upgrade operation; the curtain of the municipal theater Tasso is reopening to the city – emphasized Mayor Massimo Coppola – A place for events, art, cinema, music, dance, and, of course, theater to be enjoyed throughout the year. A hub of culture for our citizens, for the youth of our community, for guests choosing Sorrento as a travel destination. New stage, new seating, sensory paths for the visually impaired, multifunctional rooms, and much more. All to accommodate the prestigious season of performances that, thanks to an artistic director like Massimiliano Gallo, we will open tonight. Special godmother Isa Danieli, a great lady of theater, cinema, and the small screen, will inaugurate the program, and we thank her for honoring us with her presence.“
In an auspicious perspective, the theatrical season could not have been opened with anyone other than an actress of the caliber of Isa Danieli, who, in the evening, will present to the audience pieces by authors who have written for her, from Ugo Chiti to Erri De Luca, from Eduardo De Filippo to Roberto De Simone. Always in the heart and gaze, the great friend and artist Enzo Moscato, recently departed.
