In the splendid town of Sorrento, a magical place and a important tourist destination located in the heart of the historical course of Italy and the ancient walls of the city a charming villa: Villa Fiorentino. Chosen as the residence of Mr and Mrs Fiorentino in the thirties and completed by Eng. Almerigo Gargiulo,on 1935-36, in a typical American style, became the hub of commercial activities of the two spouses, one of the finest embroidered handkerchiefs so that, soon became known worldwide as Villa handkerchiefs. In times of war the house was a refuge for many people including the general and General Clark and the tenor Beniamino Gigli in honor of Mrs. Fiorentino you sang "'O sole mio" and "Torna a Surriento". Many were the illustrious guests of the business of Fiorentino: the spouses Rockefeller and Vanderbitt, the U.S. ambassador Clara Luce Bhoote and the cardinal of New York Spellmann. On the death of Mrs. Fiorentino the villa, which has three floors and enjoys a wonderful as wonderful garden, was bequeathed to the city because of Sorrento, and is still the case, the garden was a park for recreational children and the house was used for cultural events and museums.
